Intro
- Nice landing. I wasn't sure it was gonna fit.
- Phew. Can't wait to get back to HQ and make some long-overdue repairs.
- Sylphie. We can get back to our own time from here, right?
- As long as you have cyberspace data from the past stored somewhere, it should be possible.
- Then we should be fine. We still have the data from the previous incident.
- The World, right? We're going to enter a video-game world?
- I know, exciting, right? This is something every gamer dreams of.
- We're not going there for fun, Xiaomu.
- Captain, X, Zero, Hiryu... Thank you all for everything.
- Actually, if you all don't mind, I'd like to go with you.
- As would we. This problem looks like it extends far beyond our time.
- We need to eliminate it at the root. And to do that, we need to learn a lot more.
- I'm going to pursue Grandmaster Meio's former servants.
- Like heck you are, Hiryu! C'mon, we ninja gotta stick together! It's the law!
- I'm pretty sure it's not the law.
- She has a point, though, Strider. We could really use your help.
- My Commando Team is already keeping the peace across the world. Isn't it most important now to gather information?
- ...Very well.
- Don't you worry about a thing! A few extra passengers is nothing, Dragonturtle-Mk.-I-wise!
- The real problem is starting to be keeping track of them all.
- If you can't wrangle large groups, Reiji, you might be in the wrong line of work.
- All right then, everyone. Until next time.
- Thank you, Sylphie.
- We'll be fine. You really don't have to come around ever again.
- Is that so? What an interesting opinion. I look forward to finding out if that's the case.
- Sheesh. Ok, next stop, The World. All aboard!
(Everyone but Sylphie gets into the Dragonturtle, the carrier flies away, and Sylphie disappears) (At Hulle Granz Cathedral...)
- Where are we? Is this where we were trying to go?
- It's a beautiful building. It looks like... A church? Or maybe a cathedral?
- I've seen this building before. I'm sure of it. This is The World.
- Wow, so this is a game world! It feels just like cyberspace.
- Hmph! This don't look like no game! Where's the pixels and the jaggedy bits?
- Only the old or retro-type games do that these days, sweetie. I play a lot, and most of them are smooth as butter.
- Pixel art is the coolest, but I'll admit--my dream one day is to be made entirely of polygons.
- That's... That's your dream?
- So we're here. Now what?
- This is still cyberspace. The problem is, how do we log out from here into the real world?
- What? You mean you don't know?
- If only Kite from the .hackers were here, this would be easy...
- Kite? Is that someone who lives here?
- Kite's a young man who's helped us out a lot in the past. He's a frequent player of this game.
- Let me get this straight. We're looking for help from some gamer kid?
- Well, that's not entirely untrue, but... Do you remember the Second Network Crisis from not too long ago?
- The one that shut down every networked system in the world at once? He's the one who resolved it.
- And during the last time we fought Ouma, he helped us out as a champion from The World.
- Do you have any way of contacting him now?
- I guess we can't exactly just give him a phone call.
- True. The last time we met him was just happenstance.
- Which means we can't count on his help this time.
- We'll just have to track down the system that consolidates all of cyberspace... Aura.
- There's a statue of Aura in front of the cathedral. Perhaps it allows access to the system.
- Ak-Sess to the Sis-Tem? I don't get all your magician mumbo-jumbo, but as long as it works, I'm all for it!
- Hah-hah-hah! Clearly we're being rewarded for living such virtuous lifestyles.
- I hope that's not how it works...
- Okay, Doctor. We'll see you later.
- Got it. I'll keep working on the repairs. You know where to find me.
- By the way... All the reports say that Aura takes the form of a pretty young girl.
- Please don't do anything regrettable, Ethics-wise.
- What are you worried about? We're just going to go look for a statue.
- Yeah, this should be a cinch. Let's go, everyone.
(In the cathedral...)
- Hey, Kite. What're you looking around for?
- Aura's statue... It's not here.
- ...
- What's going on? And this mark on the pedastal... When did that get there?
- Oh, I get the problem now. It's simple. This isn't the "World" you know.
- Huh? What do you mean?
- This isn't Revision 1. It's Revision 2.
- Are you serious?!
- I'd recognize that mark anywhere... And there's no Aura statue here.
- This isn't the "Hidden Forbidden Holy Ground" you know.
- You've never seen this version of Hulle Granz Cathedral, have you?
- Then does this mean I'm seven years in the future now?
- Looks that way. We must have come here when we used the Chaos Gate in Mac Anu.
- ...
- Aura! Are you there?! What's happening to The World?!
- Forget it, Kite. There's no Aura here. She's just a legend now.
- No she's not! Aura's here! I know she is!
- Calm down. She's not in R:2, that's all I'm saying.
- Seven years in the future... A version of The World where Aura's no longer here.
- What are you going to do now, Kite? Me, I think I'll log out for a bit.
- You can log out, Haseo?
- Uh, yeah? See ya.
- ...
- The heck? What's going on?
- The last time something like this happened... We were unable to log out.
- What?! The what's going on with our real bodies?
- We're probably in a coma... Lost Ones, in other words.
- This can't be happening! Is THIS Tri-Edge's fault, too?
- I'm not sure, but...
- Haseo, let's go back to R:1. If we go back 7 years, Aura will still be here.
- I'm sure she'll help us.
- That's nice in theory... But how are we supposed to go back in time?
- Let's experiment with the Chaos Gates. They're our best bet for creating a portal through time.
(Two Goblin Mages and two Strange Heads appear)
- Enemies?! I've never seen this type before!
- These are R:2 monsters. How did they get in here?!
(Two AIDA Annas appear)
AIDA Anna
- ???
- Even bigger ones now!
- For monsters, though, they're kinda pretty. Are they rare?
- ...I know these.
- Haseo?
- AIDA! How did AIDA show up here?!
- AIDA?! Are those some kind of bug monsters?
- Something like that. It stands for "Artificially Intelligent Data Anomaly".
- Not a bug, so much as a data phenomenon that's escaped the rules of The World.
- And I'd bet Tri-Edge is involved.
- Kite, get back! You don't want to let those things infect you!
- Infect? What do you mean?
- AIDA can make your emotions go berserk. You lose all sense of rationality.
- Players who get infected can use power beyond the game's specs... But at a terrible cost!
- You mean it's a program that turns players into bug monsters?!
- Something like that! Damn... Looks like I'll have to use my avatar!
- Avatar? Haseo, do you have some kind of special power too?!
- "Power" is right! Here goes!
- That's it... Come on, come on!
- I'm right here!
- Skeeeeeith!
- ...!
- (Skeith? Did he just say Skeith?!)
- ...
- .........
- Haseo?
- Wh-What's going on?! Come on! Come on!
- Skeeeee...!
(Skeith appears)
- ...
- Skeith?!
- What the hell?!
- Haseo! What's going on? Is summoning Skeith your special power?!
- That's... No, we defeated Skeith a long time ago!
- ...
- That's Skeith? Wait, my avatar's not like that!
- What do you mean?!
- My PC body is special, like yours. I'm an Epitaph User.
- Epitaph Users are able to embody special powers called "Avatars".
- Mine is the "Terror of Death": Skeith.
- Skeith is your Avatar?
- Then, that Skeith over there... You say you didn't summon him?
- ...I don't know.
- But I can't summon my Skeith, and the one you know showed up...
- Maybe they've been pulled apart?!
- ...
- If that's true, we have to get him back! I need him in order to fight AIDA and Tri-Edge!
- I'll help you, Haseo. If it IS the Skeith I know, I have to stop him.
- Thanks, Kite. Let's go crush AIDA together.
- We'll break down the fence in front and take them all out at once!
After defeating one AIDA <Anna>
(The AIDA Anna explodes)
- AIDA... AI data that's gone berserk, huh?
- And not just in The World. They say it affects things in real life too.
- A new network crisis... Or maybe just a crisis, period.
- Either way, I won't let it happen. But to stop it, I need Skeith.
- I'll go with you, Haseo. Skeith and I have... a history, too.
After defeating Skeith
- ...
- Are you really Skeith? Are you connected to my avatar?
- Did you regain your old form and separate yourself from Haseo? Or...
- ...
(Skeith disappears)
- Hey! Come back! I said come back!
- He must have something to do with what's going on in The World. We gotta catch him, Haseo!
- Don't have to tell me twice. I need that power of his!
After Enemy Round 2
(The heroes enter the cathedral)
- Hm? Looks like someone's already there.
- Are they fighting?
- Ugh! More of them?!
- Hold it, Haseo! That's...
- Who're the kids? One of 'em looks friendly enough, but I can tell the other's a wannabe gangster.
- Huh? Who're you calling a wannabe, you sad old man?!
- I don't know the one in black, but isn't the orange guy Kite?
- Kite... The gamer kid you were talking about?
- Wow, that timing worked out!
- Face it, you just can't beat our luck!
- Kite, do you remember me? I'm Reiji Arisu, of Shinra.
- Whoa, the special ops guy!
- Special ops? These people?
- Not all of them, but I worked with some of them during the last incident.
- So something IS going on in the real world!
- I take it that means there are problems here, too?
- Yes. There's been a lot of strange things happening.
- This world we're in right now is seven years in the future from mine!
- Seven years in the future? You mean...
- We didn't return to our proper time?
- Time is flowing strangely in The World right now.
- There were some other real-world people here just a little while ago who came from a different time entirely.
- What about you? You look like a kind of villainous... Are you a delinquent?
- I'm not bad, my PC's just rendered that way.
- I'm Haseo. A player from this time.
- You're from this time? That might actually be a big help. There's a lot we still need to know.
- All right. Let's go give those kids a hand!
After Enemy Round 3
(Eight Walker Rhythm Robots (Five silver, three black) and Shadow warp in)
- What? Who are these newcomers... And where did they come from?
- Robots? Whoever they are, I don't think they're here to get religion...
- So this also counts as a corner of cyberspace, huh? How very retro.
- Who are you? You look suspicious, I can tell that much.
- ...
- Haseo, is that an R:2 boss character or something?
- I've never seen any of them before. Those designs definitely aren't part of The World.
- Maybe they came here from somewhere else?
- He said The World looked "retro". Maybe he's from the future.
- ...Oh? Did I say something like that?
- Come to think of it, I did hear reports about a mysterious group, one that captures civilians...
- And makes them dance.
- What? You screwing with us, Captain?
- But of course we make them dance. After all, we are...
Ulala (In the right side of the heroes)
- That's right! These scoundrels are... the Rhythm Rogues!
- But this is as far as you go, Shadow! Who I will clarify is the field captain of the Rhythm Rogues!
- More interlopers, huh? I can feel my head starting to ache already.
- Hmph. The interstellar broadcast station... Space Channel 5.
- Good morning, everyone!
- In today's Ulala Report Show, I'm coming to you live from a cathedral currently under attack by the Rhythm Rogues.
- Just look! The Commando Team, the Striders, the Maverick Hunters... It's an all-star lineup!
- And there are other people here, many of whom look extremely familiar!
- She seems to know us surprisingly well. Is this a friend of yours, Captain?
- Media relations aren't my strong suit, but she seems to turn up everywhere I go.
- Ulala's a TV reporter from our time period.
- I remember her from the last incident. she continued reporting on us right to the very end.
- And my instincts tell me this story could be extremely fascinating to our viewers!
- Well, she's certainly... unique.
- Ulala, why are you here?
- A reliable source told me of a criminal organization that's up to no good in cyberspace!
- I came here to uncover the truth, using only my trusty mic and my dance skills!
- A reliable source? Who could that be?
- Whoever it is, though, they're right. The Rhythm Rogues... Is there something they're after?
- Hmph! If you're so keen on sticking your nose into our business, we'll take you down with everything we've got.
- First, let's make sure you don't go running off! Come on, Tapioca!
- ?!
(Coco ★ Tapioca appears behind them)
- What the heck? What's that giant pink thing?!
- It's the Dancing Robot, Coco ★ Tapioca!
- What's going on? That robot belongs to the Morolians.
- We made use of a virus fragment we found in cyberspace.
- Before long, the Rhythm Rogues will develop it into a full-fledge Dance Virus!
- Is that why you're sneaking around here in cyberspace? To create a literal Saturday-night fever?
- A virus in cyberspace... I heard something similar not too long ago.
- Yeah. The former Scumocide followers, the Shtrom family, said they were after something like that.
- There must be some kind of valuable data here in cyberspace.
- A virus... that turns machines into Mavericks?
- Let it go, X. We've no evidence for that.
- (But could that rally be what the Scumocide crew were looking for?)
- Well, either way, I'm getting the impression that what we're looking for isn't here.
- In that case... It's time to make you all dance!
- Uh... I'm, like, down with parties and all, but... Random much?
- Heh heh heh... You don't understand. We're taking your Dance Energy.
- You do realize travel across spacetime takes a lot of energy, don't you?
- Spacetime? Are you saying Dance Energy can power time travel?
- Wait, wait, wait. What on earth is "Dance Energy"?
- Dance Energy is an extremely versatile and wondrous energy that builds up through the power of dance!
- Hmm... Do you suppose we could use it to cross time and space ourselves?
- We need to get back to our time, seven years in the past. I'm not picky about how we do it.
- If we could fill this entire structure with Dance Energy, I think it might be possible!
- Wait, really?
- Wow, R:2 of The World really added a lot of new game mechanics!
- Hold on, I've never heard of anything like that! You sure about this, lady?!
- As sure as I'm sure of any hunch I've had!
- It's just a hunch?!
- Heh heh heh... I wonder. Would my own Dance Energy drown yours out?
- You wouldn't dare!
- Would two opposing Dance Energies cancel each other out? If so, it might not fill the cathedral.
- Who knows? I'm not sure anything about this energy's physics makes sense.
- Well, we might as well keep fighting either way. Is there a trick to it, Ulala?
- As long as you move in tune with your heart, your feet will do the rest! Now, let's dance!
- Understood. Initiating tactical dancefare.
- If you wanna test me, I'm sure you'll find that my skill with dancing is quite entrancing!
- I've faced off against a master in a dance contest, so I know a few moves myself!
- Well then, good people of Space Channel 5! Shall we begin?
- You're on! Whether you like it or not...
After defeating Shadow
- Not bad, Channel 5! You are indeed a worthy opponent.
- Our Dance Energy is extremely potent!
- Was I making Dance Energy? I sure didn't mean to.
- But now we've determined that you pose a threat to the Rhythm Rogues.
- That's all we need to know for now. Until we meet again!
(Shadow disappears)
- New power struggles in the future, huh? Big trouble in little cyberspace.
- What kind of nefarious machinations are they plotting? Your reporter will not rest until she uncovers the truth!
After defeating Coco ★ Tapioca
(Coco ★ Tapioca explodes)
- What incredible power they must have to control Morolian robots.
- Then again, Morolians themselves are extremely east to manipulate, so perhaps their robots aren't very different!
- As a journalist, should you really traffic in stereotypes like that?
- But there's no guarantee that we won't encounter a second Tapioca unit, or even a third!
- The scene remains chaotic! This is an ongoing report!
Outro
- So Aura's not here?
- I remember this place. Her statue was here once.
- Sheesh... Maybe she ran away? She WAS at a difficult age.
- So you've all seen Aura? Does she really have that much power?
- At the very least, the Aura we knew was practically the system itself.
- Aura... The Key of the Twilight, huh.
- Haseo?
- Never mind, it's nothing. So what do we do now?
- We've got someone waiting for us outside. If we can't find Aura, we'd better leave.
- I believe we should hurry.
- Did you detect something, KOS-MOS?
- The cyberspace network is being severed and isolate, one databank at a time.
- Yay! I mean, oh no! I mean, I have no idea what you said!
- If our connection to the real world gets blocked off, will this location be completely inaccessible?
- If it does, we'll be stranded here. Hmph, let's see that that doesn't happen.
- Right! Let's hurry to the Chaos Gate outside!
(Everyone heads out of the cathedral)
